![]() Zombadings: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington >> Movie Review
"Bakit? Hindi na ba ako pwedeng maging ama, kung bading na ako?" -John Regala, Zombadings
When I first heard about Zombadings, I honestly did not set high expectations. At first I thought that it would turn out to be a typical “for gays only” movie so it was not my typical type of movie obviously. I’ve seen mainstream movies with this kind of genre and since it is in mainstream, I thought that it would carry an overbearingly cutesy again which is accompanied by make-ups and stuffs (no offense meant on mainstream). I more of patronize Independent Films now so Zombadings did not appeal to me that much unlike Ang pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros. The urge to go and see the movie myself was mainly because of my undying love for Martin Escudero and out of sheer curiosity. However, when our Film Appreciation professor brought it to us, I ate everything that I thought and said. And I will tell you why.
The story of Zombadings revolves around a guy, who was doomed to be a gay. When he was still young, he taunted a mysterious gay (Roderick Paulate) by repeatedly saying that the latter is gay. In return, the gay, who turned out to be a witch cursed him. When he is all grown up, the effect of Roderick's curse happened. He started changing his preference on all things, and started speaking in Gay Lingo. That time, a serial killer responsible for gay killings were at large and he, along with his bestfriend and lady love must break the curse before it gets to him. On his journey to tracking down the serial killer and fighting the urge to be gay, secrets started to unfold. Therefore, changing their interconnected lives forever.
Now what was just so cool about this movie? First, it is a gay movie but obviously not for gays only. In fact, I believe that this movie was intended for families and not for gays. It does not showcase the archetypal gay movie where everything is just so predictable. I saw reality in this fantasy-like movie. The setting and the typical experience of a gay who’s having a gender transformation is just real. It is a full pack movie. You would see a glimpse of every movie type incorporated in one film. There’s horror, action, romance, drama, comedy, suspense, mystery and thriller. If you would try to fit everything in one movie, it would look like a haystack already. But, surprisingly, it did not. I don’t know if it is just me, but I seriously ate what I said earlier because I loved the movie. The way everything was staged, set and filmed was great. The lighting complemented the theme of the movie and the effects are truly amusing. I so love Martin’s dance moves which is accompanied by swishing and flicking of playful effects.
And do you know what the best thing about this movie is? It was made not merely to entertain, but to EDUCATE. It DECONSTRUCTED the idea that we, the DISPARAGING society has set on them. Not because you are gay that you do not deserve to live and be acknowledge by people. No one can argue with me when I say that gays are one of the best comedians in the world. Their sense of humour would leave you literally rolling on the floor while laughing. Not because you are a woman trapped in a man’s physique that you can’t be victorious in your chosen field. “Lahat ng bakla, salot.” is an enormous lie. Look at Boy Abunda, Vice Ganda, IC Mendoza, Rustom Padilla, Ogie Diaz and Tita Swarding. All of them are achievers. Boy Abunda is an exemplary of a gay is very dignified, educated and successful. And no one could definitely say that one cannot be a father, if he is gay. Every Human being has the right to live. And gays are of no exception. They are our pride as well, as they continue to prove to the world their worth, and it is high time that we, especially those families who opposes, to support them just the same.
Also, isn’t it ironic that, it was Martin’s dad who in the end has to sacrifice and be a gay for his son when in real life, it is the father who is always on the verge of killing their son who “goes on the feminine side”? That is because the movie is grasping the hearts of the father, of the brothers who hold grudges on their gay relatives. It was meant to make them realize that gender, should not hinder the love they have that is set to say forever in their lives. The only thing that I know about this movie is that, it is AWAARD! P.S. One more thing, have you seen the tag "1" beside the title Zombadings? I hope that it gives you a promising sign that there will be part two. :) BACK TO TOP? |

![]() Zombadings Film Review by Flores, Cristina
(L-R) Princess Ramos, Carla Basa, Tins Flores [ME], and Anna Fontejon Zombadings (Movie review) Having watched Zombadings is a very great opportunity because it satisfied my desire for an enjoyable entertainment. Zombadings: Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington is an independent film directed by Raymond Lee which was first shown in this year’s Cinemalaya as its closing film and eventually made its way to the mainstream cinema. Zombadings is a film about Remington, a gay teenager who lived in a province in Lucban, Quezon. The story revolved on the gays of the society; they were the people who did no harm to others but were still harassed and killed. When Remington was a child, he used to mock gays by shouting and humiliating them in front of other people. The day came when the gay that Remington mocked at the cemetery got mad at him and cursed him that when he grows up, he will turn out to be gay just like the rest of the homosexuals he mocked. Time passed and Remington grew into a charming guy. All was well until their barangay had a lot of cases involving the murder of homosexuals. Remington’s mother was in charge because she was a policewoman in their barangay tasked to solve the mystery killings. As days went by, the murder cases increased in number and a few changes were experienced by Remington. A scary, topless, macho guy ambushed him in the dark and shaved all his hair. The weird, macho guy also appeared in Remington’s room when he was sleeping and started scaring him. In one instance, the macho guy also almost killed Remington by hitting him with the tricycle but instead, he pulled Remington’s tongue. The next days, Remington started talking like a gay, dressing up as a girl, and acting like one. He also made out with his best friend Jigs even though his heart belongs to Hannah. Throughout the movie, Remington finds out why he had those changes with the help of the gay he mocked at the cemetery and some of his friends. The murder cases of the homosexuals were also solved step-by-step because the owner of the gaydar was revealed. It was an unfortunate event because the lives of the dead homosexuals were wasted due to the man’s anger to society and gays. Nevertheless, in order for Remington to return to his normal self, a man that is virgin of gays should be the one to replace him. But, the rise of the gays from their graves began when Roderick Paulate was targeted by the gaydar and got killed. Revenge was very widespread; the zombies created bloodshed. At the end of the battle between homosexuals and the townspeople, Remington’s father offered himself to be his replacement so that he will not suffer. In the morning after the town was convereted into a battlefield, all was in place. Remington’s father really became gay and they still supported and loved each other. Everything was resolved and fixed. By: Flores, Cristina A | 202B-ABMC | Group 3, K-On! |

![]() Movie Review: Zombadings
![]() Last September 5, 2011 we had our fieldtrip. We went to the Film Museum in Cubao then got free passes for Zombadings. We watched the indie film at Gateway. Zombadings: Patayin sa shokot si Remington is an indie film directed by Jade Castro. While watching the film I was laughing the whole time. This is a story about homosexuals life in the real world and how they are treated. Starring Martin Escudero, Lauren Young, Janice de Belen, John Regala, Kerbie Zamora and Eugene Domingo. Remington, played by Martin Escudero lives in Lucban, Quezon. When he was still a child, he always teases homosexuals by calling them "bakla". One day, together with his Mom, they went to the cemetery. He saw someone mourning and when he realizes that the one mourning is a gay, he teased the person. A curse was said upon him saying that on his 21st birthday he will be a full pledged gay. The person whom he saw was played by Roderick Paulate. Time pass and he grew up as a good looking man. He liked his neighbor, Hannah whose father died weeks ago before they met. But as the curse is nearing to happen, a big muscular man came upon him while he was taking a bath and shaved him. When he woke up, he's shaved. The man continuously did such things to make Remington gay until he acts, dresses and thinks like a gay he even fell inlove with his bestfriend. Hannah, fell inlove with Remington and helped him to break the curse. They went to the person who cursed him and the only solution for him to be a man is for someone to sacrifice himself to be gay. He must be virgin, in a sense that he never slept with a gay. Cases in their hometown was widely spreading, the death of homosexuals but then later on was suspected that Remington's godfather killed them all. He uses a device that can read if your homosexual or not then later on in the movie we found out that his godfather was also gay. They were losing hope but when his Father knew about it, he willingly sacrificed for his son to be a man and him to be gay. The curse was broke and that's it. It tells us that we shouldn't mocked people who are homosexuals, bisexuals and other genders they say. They are also persons with feelingsand rights. It doesn't make you less a person when your homosexual or bisexual. Luces, Eliza B.

![]() Movie Review for Zombadings:)
Zombadings: Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington We had a fieldtrip last September 5, 2011. First is we went to the Film Museum in Cubao then we had a free movie pass to watch and support Zombadings because of our professor, Mr. Rondina. Zombadings: Patayin sa shokot si Remington is a Filipino independent film that discussed social issues mixed with usual young love story. It gives out laughs with every part and makes really a memorable comedy movie. This is a story of Remington played by Martin Escudero, a boy who always do things crazy and keep on bothering people. He's favorite to tease intentionally are the homosexuals in their homewtown, Lucban Quezon. He always harassed the gay member of the community. One day in the cemetery he meets a gay man played by Mr. Roderick Paulate and mocks him about his gender. Accidentally this gay man curses him that when he grow up, he will be a gay too. Before his 21st birthday, he was attacked by a jerk man armed with a blade/shaver. One morning, he wake up to find himself shaved and he is wearing tighter clothes. The day passed by and run of visits from the mysterious man indicates the transformation of Remington which he hates the most. One time the people discovered that there is a serial killer in their hometown, victimizing the gay members. As Remington tries to figure out about this issue , Zombies of the dead gays called to revenge on their killers. There this someone the buddy of Remington who started to fall in love with in gay mode and there is also someone in his guy mode who asking him to get back in normal. As the father of Remington who loves him so much, he deal with the curse and let himself to transferred to be a gay. He let his son to live normal and fall in love with the opposite sex. Martin Escudero is a good actor for me because he's role is not easy. The way he act and talk catches the attention of the audience. |
