CUCHERA A film by: Joseph Israel Laban
The film was very much filled with obscene scenes and language but I just had to grow up and be open minded. It owes its life from the news, from stories of Filipino drug couriers abroad, about people who are trapped in a labyrinth in which trouble lurks at every exit. It follows the story of Isabel, a veteran drug mule, in her first attempt at running her own drug transshipment operation between Manila and China. Isabel’s character is based on the story of an actual Filipina drug mule who was caught with eight capsules of heroin lodged in her sex organ, 48 in the rectum and 11 in her abdomen after an x-ray was conducted by Chinese authorities. Cuchera presents an accurate depiction of how some Filipinos end up becoming entrenched in the world of illegal drugs. People have to go through this danger because they need the money. It was total eye opener. Too pity for the victimized persons just to live their lives comfortably not knowing that it would lead them to destruction not only in law but also in health. -Ma.
