Film History (Group Blog)

During the Spanish Era, we are enriched with their ways and words which we continually used today. Spaniards brought ideas that challenged Filipinos to make their own. Jose Nepomuceno, the Father of Philippine Movies first created the movie Dalagang Bukid.

Spanish language films were produced as late as 1936 Secreto de Confession became their first locally-made Spanish-language film.
Juan Torena became a famous Filipino actor in Hollywood in the 30's, appearing in Spanish remakes of Hollywood blockbuster films.
Spanish influences can still be seen in contemporary Filipino films.

Georges Demeny contributed to the development of cronofotografia.

Kinemacolor was the first successful color motion picture process, used commercially from 1908 to 1914. It was invented by George Albert Smith of Brighton, England in 1906.

Thomas Edison's interest in motion pictures began before 1888. He invented the Kinetoscope.

Our country has been heavily influenced by various countries thus, what we are today is because of what we

have learned from them. It is reflected in a lot of ways most especially in our film and arts.

During the American Colonization, creating a movie was a lot harder to make because you need an amount of money in able to produce a film.Since Filipinos are creative and resourceful enough they made films with not much amount of money but still a good film.

One best example of the influenced of the Japanese is when they invaded the Philippines because it brought a

lot of inspiration for people to put the events in to film for it to be a creative way to show our history.

1950's is known for the Golden years of Film Industry.

Four big production studios LVN Pictures, Sampaguita Pictures, Premiere Productions and Lebran International were at their peak in filmmaking, employing premier directors like Gerardo de León, Eddie Romero and César Gallardo while contracting the biggest stars of that period. The Filipino film industry was one of the busiest and bustling film communities in Asia, releasing an average of 350 films a year making Philippines second to Japan in terms of film productions a year.

Years pass and the Film Industry went well and succeeded. Films that are made these times are for the masses quality. Though these years were popular for soft porn movies that are shown in public, it earned a lot. 1960's was also the era of musical films produced mostly by Sampaguita Pictures and their discovered talents. At the turn of the 70s, local producers and filmmakers ceased to produce pictures in black and white.
